Flowers as Part of the Interior - Back to Nature

If you are currently in the process of furnishing your new apartment or you feel that your rooms are missing something and you are wondering how to revive the premises, maybe houseplants are the right choice for you! In this blog, we will talk about the use of greenery to enhance your interior design.

As we have seen in recent years in many trendy restaurants, boutiques, offices, and homes, the use of plants in interior design is becoming increasingly popular. Flowers are more than a trend and they not only make spaces more attractive and lively but also play a role in our overall health. Research has shown that houseplants not only reduce air pollution and noise but also increase well-being and reduce stress.

The Health Benefits of Plants

The main benefits of plants are that they help reduce anxiety and stress. Their presence also helps to lower blood pressure and can even make us feel calmer and more balanced.

Another advantage of having some indoor plants in our bedrooms is that they allow better sleep, due to the release of oxygen during the night. Plants also filter the air, increase humidity in the rooms and reduce dust, helping to breathe easier, fight allergies or even colds.

They also help to improve concentration, creativity, memory and, of course, a better mood, thus increasing our productivity!

The use of Plants in Interior Design

We briefly mentioned the health benefits of houseplants, but what about the design ones? Plants were considered a luxury to many, that for centuries, only wealthy families could afford. Currently, however, they are relatively cheap and one of the most effective design tools to improve the interior. Nevertheless, they are often overlooked and their absence can create a cold or even uncomfortable feeling in some areas.

What makes them so important in decorating our homes? They do a great job of providing bold colours, organic shapes, and unique textures to the environment. They are a great connecting element, they help to emphasise the advantages of the room or, conversely, to mask the shortcomings or divide the room into zones. They add balance to the rooms and help create a unique atmosphere!

Once we have a better overview of why plants are important in interior design and why they are already taken into account in architectural designs, we can talk about where they should be used. The short answer would be; have at least one plant or flower in every room. Nevertheless, there are a few basic areas where you always rely on the use of plant: empty corners, simple white walls, shelves, tables of any use, or even bathrooms.

Analyse Your Space

First of all, it is reasonable to consider and analyse the space you are working with, to get a good understanding of the strongest and weakest places in the room. Observe which part of the space would be good to illuminate, refine, or complete. Look at the spaces from different perspectives, it will help you choose the best place to express yourself.

Moreover, in this step, you need to start thinking about which houseplants you like and which would look best in the space you are designing. Nevertheless we must not forget that each plant needs different lighting conditions, so we should distribute them accordingly. However, if you are a beginner and you’re starting to feel like this is all a bit too much, don't have to feel overwhelmed. Flower and garden studios will be happy to advise you on this matter and give you several options to choose from, in the end, it will all seem quite simple to you.

Large plants in the room impress us and draw our eyes. They are ideal for minimalist interiors, where we want to emphasise a certain part of the design. They are also suitable for filling empty corners or filling the room. However, be careful not to overcrowd the room.

Although do not underestimate small plants, which are also very beautiful in interiors and can diversify any shelf.
